about the demo 1.0
|
This space-asteroid-arcade style game is a nice diversion,
a creative variation
on a well-used theme. The sounds are not particularly
exciting, but the
graphics are solid enough, including the nicely rendered
spinning Earth.
You control the Earth with the keyboard's direction keys,
and engage
shields and fire missiles with the space bar and Z key respectively.
The demo gives the first five levels. This is a decent game that offers
a respectable challenge. |

The early asteroid detection system did a mighty fine
job detecting asteroids
that were on a collision course with earth. The
only problem is, what do we do
now that we know a few thousand rocks roughly
the size of Manhattan are
about to shake, rattle, and roll the planet?
The answer: strap on a couple
of booster rockets near Antarctica and move
the whole shebang to another
orbit. To keep safe from minor space debris,
you have a shield system, and
since taking the orb out of its solar orbit
will mess up the seasons (among other
things), you've also got to make
a couple of pit stops along the way to procure
water, food, and minerals
so what's left of the population doesn't starve to
death. This demo version
includes five levels. |

In addition to its original structure, Save the Earth!
has extraordinary graphics.
Most of the animated objects were created with 3D modelers
to give the game
the most realistic look possible. Even the backgrounds
of each game screen
were developed with a 3D landscape modeler. Save the
Earth! is an adventure
and action game in which the main character, the Earth,
is forced to leave her
solar orbit because her survival is threatened by the
arrival of enormous
meteorites. After equipping herself with rocket engines
and a protective shield,
the planet begins its long voyage in search of another
habitat. During the voyage
she must not only protect herself from countless threats,
but she must also
procure the energy necessary to continue her voyage and
the resources
necessary to maintain her population: water, food, minerals,
etc. During her
odyssey, the Earth encounters one of the three Thinking
Planets in the
Universe, Eurystheus, which forces her to submit to seven
dangerous tests.
Besides being an explicit ecological metaphor, in which
the Earth and its
inhabitants represent a single living being that must
act in unison to save itself
globally, the game is rich in references ranging from
the Monolith created by
Arthur C. Clarke for his 2001, A Space Odyssey to Greek
mythology, where the
Earth represents a fledgling Hercules that must accomplish
the duties imposed
on him by Eurystheus, king of Mycenea. |
