Coffee grounds, Mount Vulture aglianico must, elderberries, almond hulls, onion peels: these are just some of the raw materials used for the production of PIGMENTO’s natural pigments. This marks a return to implementing natural pigments: the principles of environmental and economic sustainability are respected with a nod to the past, while innovative methods join new technologies and professionalism, in order to make their use feasible, intense and long-lasting.
These are eco-friendly and nontoxic pigments - free of adulterations, additives, and chemical contaminations - whose benefits have been scientifically proven. The commercialization of powders and liquids is destined for companies in the textiles, sustainable building, food, and cosmetics sectors, as a substitute for the synthetic pigments found in chemical pigments - that are often obtained from crude oil (for example aniline and aromatic derivatives) and can be harmful to one's health and the environment, especially those that are non-biodegradable.

An innovative production process was created in the laboratory thanks to research and the use of new instruments in this sector, which allow us to obtain a high quality product in a briefer time period. Besides colouring without any harmful effects for one’s health, PIGMENTO also releases antioxidant substances which are actually beneficial to our health. During the pigment extraction process, we can find substances such as polyphenols and flavonoids – natural chemical compounds which are known for their health properties – which are essential components of the pigments themselves.
PIGMENTO was started in January 2016, at the foot of Mount Vulture in Basilicata, thanks to an idea Miriam Mastromartino had. The company’s founder and business developer, Miriam is an economist with experience in the fashion sector. After understanding the potentials of her idea, she brought her two siblings on board: Vincenzo, who studied chemistry at the Università di Firenze, and Selena, the communication designer. Today, PIGMENTO aims to be a unique ally for sustainability and environmental purity, thanks to both the past and innovation. True respect for ourselves can emerge only when we deeply respect nature.
